Top Five of 2009

On this NYE, I thought I'd post my standard top 5 of 2009......

For me it's been a slow year. Between living in Galveston, remodeling the house, getting married and such, I've been pretty busy and haven't been buying as much music as in years past. Excuses aside and with no further adieu:

1. Kings of Leon – Only by the Night
2. Deer Hunter – Microcastle
3. Raphael Saadiq – The Way I see it
4. Decembrist – Hazards of Love
5. Neko Case- Middle Cyclone

I gift I couldn't agree with more.

AHH! The wisdom of a magnet is not always as wrong as once proposed.

Back from X-mas

A nice Storm took out an older tree while we were away for X-mas. I'm glad it didn't fall on the wooden fence in the background or I would be paying to replace the neighbors high dollar fence.

Wow, that was a lot of work.

We've been meaning to finish our living room but were having a motivation problem. So my good friend Mark, decided he'd help us with it as a wedding present. So this project, that began as a 4 person two day task - turned into a 6 day headache and the rest of the guys went back to their day jobs. We all sanded, floated, primed, taped and climbed the ladders a MILLION Times, but it's back to being livable.

We still haven't put the chosen color up, but ACL is starting and we just needed to stop living out of one room with 3-dogs.

Don't know how I feel about him

But, he's no longer with us. I don't want people to starve but we sure don't need any more people. He may ultimately be responsible for the dominance of India and China for the last 1/2 of this century.

How to sell a table

Pearl has gained some weight. Married life has been good to her, not to mention that sucking down food to keep the other dogs away has made her a little fat/happy.

Anyway, we finally got a nibble on the table. Hopefully it sells. No big whoop.

The sink and faucet

The sink and faucet have arrived (the 2nd time for the sink) and are in. I installed the disposal and the dishwasher the following day after the bondo dried and the sink had properly adhered to the countertops. The surface is a product called Caesarstone and is a solid surface quartz material.

Steel in the his-OUSE

These are W8 x 21's. Which means a nominal 8" high and 21 lbs per foot in length. Since they are 18.5 ft long, they weigh 388 lbs. And yes, my shoulder did hurt like hell the next day. The installation of these two beams allowed for the removal of two walls and with the inclusion of the third column, I was able to have a "T" shape that eliminated a column landing in the middle of my living/dining/kitchen.
